No Other Gods - Message 3 - Prosperity Without Idols

The central theme of this episode revolves around the imperative notion of prioritizing God's kingdom over material wealth, encapsulated in the exhortation to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, as articulated in Matthew 6:33. This discourse elucidates the distinction between prosperity as a mere tool rather than a deity, emphasizing that true prosperity arises from a life aligned with divine principles, obedience, and wisdom. We address the prevalent misconceptions surrounding wealth, asserting that God does not shun increase but rather opposes the idols that often accompany it. Furthermore, we explore the dual dangers of loving and fearing money, highlighting the necessity for a heart of generosity as an antidote to materialism. Ultimately, we invite listeners to reflect on their financial priorities and to cultivate a stewardship that honors God above all. The discourse presented within this episode serves as an insightful exploration into the nuanced relationship between prosperity and idolatry, underpinning the essential principle that prioritizing the kingdom of God is paramount. The host articulates with fervor the distinction between wealth as a servant versus a savior, emphasizing that true biblical prosperity is characterized not by an insatiable desire for material gain, but rather by a life aligned with divine order, producing fruitful outcomes. As the discussion unfolds, it becomes evident that the pursuit of prosperity must be firmly rooted in obedience and wisdom, as articulated in Matthew 6:33, which advocates for seeking the kingdom first. The episode delineates the dangers of allowing both greed and fear of financial instability to morph into idolatry, urging listeners to evaluate their relationship with money through a biblical lens. The host further elucidates that generosity acts as a formidable weapon against the grip of materialism, fostering a posture of honor towards God and laying the groundwork for true abundance. Ultimately, the episode provides poignant reflection questions, inviting listeners to introspectively consider their financial priorities and the potential idols within their lives, reinforcing the message that a life devoted to God and His righteousness will yield the blessings of prosperity, devoid of corrupting influences.

Takeaways:

  1. The pursuit of prosperity must be secondary to seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
  2. True prosperity serves as a tool for fulfilling God's purposes, not as an idol to be worshiped.
  3. Generosity acts as a powerful weapon against the idolatry of wealth and materialism.
  4. God desires to bless those who prioritize Him over their possessions and financial security.

Speaker A:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Speaker A:

Matthew 6:33 Brothers and sisters, welcome back to no other Gods.

Speaker A:

Get rid of your idols.

Speaker A:

We exposed the idol factory.

Speaker A:

We talked about holy replacement.

Speaker A:

Because you don't just remove idols, you replace them with devotion.

Speaker A:

Now we arrive at the part that gets misunderstood, fought over and often abused.

Speaker A:

Prosperity.

Speaker A:

Let me say this clearly before anyone gets nervous.

Speaker A:

We are not preaching greed.

Speaker A:

We are not preaching poverty.

Speaker A:

We are preaching the kingdom.

Speaker A:

And when the kingdom is first, all these things become additions, not addictions.

Speaker A:

Matthew 6:33 tells us, but seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Speaker A:

Not sought first, added, not worshipped.

Speaker A:

Added, not chaste, added.

Speaker A:

Say this out loud.

Speaker A:

Kingdom first, then things are added.

Speaker A:

God first, then increase is safe.

Speaker A:

No idols, no corruption.

Speaker A:

Prosperity is a servant, not a savior.

Speaker A:

Brothers and sisters, prosperity is a tool.

Speaker A:

It is not a God.

Speaker A:

It is not a source.

Speaker A:

It is not a substitute for intimacy with God.

Speaker A:

Prosperity makes a wonderful servant and a terrible master.

Speaker A:

When prosperity becomes your goal, you will compromise to get it.

Speaker A:

When God is your goal, prosperity becomes a byproduct of obedience and wisdom.

Speaker A:

Let me give you a one liner.

Speaker A:

If you need money to feel secure, money has become your God.

Speaker A:

Biblical prosperity is not.

Speaker A:

I want more stuff.

Speaker A:

Biblical prosperity is God's order producing God's fruit.

Speaker A:

It's when your life is aligned with heaven and your hands are trained in wisdom.

Speaker A:

And yes, God cares about provision.

Speaker A:

He cares about your needs.

Speaker A:

He cares about impact.

Speaker A:

But God refuses to bless idols because idols make blessings poisonous.

Speaker A:

God doesn't hate increase, he hates idols.

Speaker A:

Now let's kill a lie.

Speaker A:

God is not against you having resources.

Speaker A:

God is against resources having you.

Speaker A:

And the Bible is very clear about that.

Speaker A:

Deuteronomy 8, 17, 18.

Speaker A:

Then you will say in your heart, my power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.

Speaker A:

And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the power to get wealth.

Speaker A:

Did you catch it?

Speaker A:

God gives power to get wealth.

Speaker A:

But he warns that wealth can hypnotize you into self worship.

Speaker A:

Wealth is not the enemy.

Speaker A:

Forgetfulness is the enemy.

Speaker A:

Pride is the enemy.

Speaker A:

Independent living is the enemy.

Speaker A:

Say this with me.

Speaker A:

It's not my hand, it's the Lord.

Speaker A:

It's not my brilliance, it's the Lord.

Speaker A:

It's not my luck, it's the Lord.

Speaker A:

Let's talk about the prosperity.

Speaker A:

God blesses word, obedience and wisdom.

Speaker A:

Brothers and sisters, I want if you want prosperity without idols.

Speaker A:

You need to understand the pattern of Scripture.

Speaker A:

God doesn't bless chaos, he blesses alignment.

Speaker A:

Let's go to Joshua.

Speaker A:

Joshua 1:8 tells us the the book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night.

Speaker A:

For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.

Speaker A:

Notice the sequence.

Speaker A:

It's word, meditation, obedience, prosperity and then success.

Speaker A:

Not vibes.

Speaker A:

No manifesting, no manipulation.

Speaker A:

Word and obedience.

Speaker A:

And Psalm 1 says, the blessed man is the one who delights in God's law and whatever he does, prospers.

Speaker A:

Why?

Speaker A:

Because his roots are healthy and healthy roots produce healthy fruit.

Speaker A:

God is not trying to make you rich and reckless.

Speaker A:

God is trying to make you fruitful and faithful.

Speaker A:

There are two dangers.

Speaker A:

Loving money and fearing money.

Speaker A:

Now let's talk practically, brothers and sisters.

Speaker A:

There are two ways money becomes an idol.

Speaker A:

Danger 1.

Speaker A:

Loving money.

Speaker A:

That's obvious.

Speaker A:

That's greed.

Speaker A:

That's I need more and I don't care who gets hurt.

Speaker A:

That's compromise.

Speaker A:

1 Timothy 6, 9, 10 tells us, those who want to get rich fall into temptation.

Speaker A:

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.

Speaker A:

The verse doesn't say money is evil.

Speaker A:

It says the love of money is a root.

Speaker A:

When money is loved, people are used.

Speaker A:

When God is loved, money is used well.

Speaker A:

Danger 2 Fearing money.

Speaker A:

This one is very sneaky.

Speaker A:

Some people don't worship money with greed.

Speaker A:

They worship money with anxiety.

Speaker A:

They say.

Speaker A:

They don't say, I want to be rich.

Speaker A:

They say I'm terrified of being broke.

Speaker A:

So they hoard, they panic.

Speaker A:

They control.

Speaker A:

They can't trust God and they call it wisdom, brothers and sisters.

Speaker A:

Wisdom plans.

Speaker A:

But idolatry panics.

Speaker A:

If you can't rest, it's not stewardship, it's worship.

Speaker A:

There are three proofs that God is first time.

Speaker A:

Treasure and trust.

Speaker A:

Now let's make it measurable.

Speaker A:

Because God first isn't a slogan, it's a system.

Speaker A:

Here are three proofs.

Speaker A:

God is first.

Speaker A:

Proof 1.

Speaker A:

Your time.

Speaker A:

What gets your best time.

Speaker A:

Not your leftover time, your best time.

Speaker A:

If God gets scraps, he's not first.

Speaker A:

Proof two.

Speaker A:

Your treasure.

Speaker A:

Not only tithing, your whole financial posture.

Speaker A:

Do you honor God?

Speaker A:

Do you give?

Speaker A:

Do you steward?

Speaker A:

Do you plan?

Speaker A:

Or do you spend like a slave and pray like a gambler?

Speaker A:

Proof 3.

Speaker A:

Your trust.

Speaker A:

When you don't understand, do you obey?

Speaker A:

When it's uncomfortable, do you still do what's right?

Speaker A:

Trust is proven under pressure.

Speaker A:

Let's talk about generosity.

Speaker A:

The idol killer.

Speaker A:

We must talk about Generosity.

Speaker A:

Because generosity is heaven's weapon against mammon.

Speaker A:

Proverbs 9:3 9:10 tells us, Honor the Lord with your possessions so your barns will be filled with plenty.

Speaker A:

Honour is first, then plenty.

Speaker A:

And yes, Malachi 310 speaks about bringing the tithe.

Speaker A:

But let me say this carefully.

Speaker A:

Tithing is not paying God, so he blesses you.

Speaker A:

Tithing is putting God in his rightful place.

Speaker A:

So mammon loses power.

Speaker A:

Giving doesn't buy blessing.

Speaker A:

Giving breaks bondage.

Speaker A:

And Paul says in 1 Timothy 6 that the rich should not be arrogant, but generous, laying up treasure as a firm foundation for the coming age.

Speaker A:

Meaning God may increase you, but he increases you for impact, not ego.

Speaker A:

While God may delay, increase mercy, not punishment.

Speaker A:

Brothers and sisters, here's a hard truth.

Speaker A:

Sometimes God delays increase because increase would expose or amplify idols.

Speaker A:

If more money would make you more proud, God may delay it.

Speaker A:

If more influence would make you more lustful, God may delay it.

Speaker A:

If more power would make you more cruel, God may delay it.

Speaker A:

Not because he wants you stuck, but because he wants you safe.

Speaker A:

Delay can be deliverance.

Speaker A:

When your character isn't ready.

Speaker A:

God isn't interested in what you can receive.

Speaker A:

He is interested in what you can carry.

Speaker A:

The Clean Prosperity Prayer Seek first, then ask now.

Speaker A:

How do we pray for prosperity without idolatry?

Speaker A:

We pray like this.

Speaker A:

Lord, make me faithful.

Speaker A:

Lord, make me wise.

Speaker A:

Lord, make me disciplined.

Speaker A:

Lord, make me generous.

Speaker A:

Lord, make me clean.

Speaker A:

Then we ask for increase, not as a throne, but as a tool.

Speaker A:

Brothers and sisters, the goal is not stuff.

Speaker A:

The goal is stewardship.

Speaker A:

The goal is not rich.

Speaker A:

The goal is ready.

Speaker A:

Say this with me, Lord.

Speaker A:

I don't want money as my God.

Speaker A:

I want God as my source.

Speaker A:

Use me to fund the kingdom.

Speaker A:

Keep me humble and holy.

Speaker A:

Here are some questions for reflection.

Speaker A:

If God doubled my income tomorrow, what idol will it expose?

Speaker A:

2.

Speaker A:

Do I fear money more than I trust God?

Speaker A:

Is my financial life aligned with kingdom principles or emotional impulses?

Speaker A:

4.

Speaker A:

What does my giving say about who sits on the throne?

Speaker A:

Let us pray.

Speaker A:

Father, in the name of Jesus.

Speaker A:

We repent for every way we have made money, comfort, status or success into a God.

Speaker A:

We repent for chasing additions before seeking the kingdom.

Speaker A:

We repent for anxiety, greed, pride and compromise.

Speaker A:

Lord, we put you first, not in words.

Speaker A:

In our time, our treasure and our trust.

Speaker A:

Give us wisdom like Joseph, integrity like Daniel, boldness like Elijah, and devotion like Jesus.

Speaker A:

Teach us to steward money without worshipping it.

Speaker A:

Teach us to plan without panicking.

Speaker A:

Teach us to give without fear.

Speaker A:

Teach us to prosper without pride.

Speaker A:

And Father, as We seek your kingdom and your righteousness.

Speaker A:

Let all these things be added in a way that honors you.

Speaker A:

Bless us our families and advances the kingdom Gospel.

Speaker A:

Make us people you can trust with increase no other gods.

Speaker A:

Jesus is Lord.

Speaker A:

In Jesus name, amen.

Speaker A:

Brothers and sisters, guard your altar, keep your throne clear.

Speaker A:

And remember, additions are safe when God is first.
